I Disagree with the Review
I saw it as a satire of the whole system-the way everyone walks around like they have the final word on matters of sexuality, when in reality, everyone is equally clueless. In the end, you see that Steve Carrell's instincts were right all along, and everyone else who made fun of him were really just sheep doing what others wanted them to do.
The date scene with the drunk girl was spot on. That is how life works. People are in a hurry to look organized and adjusted, so they get married or move in together, then they realize what bullshit it is and then they have to get divorced, whereas Carrells character spent his time wisely on what HE enjoyed and didn't get caught up in the groupthink about sex and relationships.
