I didn't see the man hate
Maybe I'm mixing up all of the Charlie's Angels movie's since this one came out, but I didn't feel like I got man-hater content.
"A lot of men are sucked into seeing this movie thinking that they will see some skin of three hot and sassy women... I didn't find the leading women, Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore, or Lucy Liu to be particularly attractive and especially not after they open their mouths"
That was you up there. Those comments totally contribute to stereotypes of men objectifying women only as sexual objects as opposed to recognizing them as people in various roles in society. This is furthered by the fact that you never mentioned them in the context of their profession, such as whether or not their acting in this film was good... considering that well... they are actresses. I would not use your commentary to engage discussions of the social assault against men for that reason.
As a black man... I am all for fairness of representation of various groups of people in movies. But, I think that one also has to commit to a thorough review of the content and context presented too. This movie was meant to make fun of itself. Thats what I liked about it. It didn't take itself seriously. In that, it kind of made fun of everybody. And those "rip-offs" of James Bond that you felt were done badly... that too was meant to be funny. Which of course, is why I liked it.
It seems to me that you were disappointed that these characters produced a comedic attempt at nuancing what a woman hero may be like coming off the heels of an end to women's inequality and in the context of an increasingly egalitarian society.
I would say, that man bashing is one thing... but don't get your panties in such a bunch that you become overly-sensitive to content that doesn't contribute to our oppression or puts us on the undesirable end of inequality.
